CRM Switchboard Take the quiz
Methodology

How we research and verify nonprofit CRM facts

Every fact on CRM Switchboard comes from a page we can link: usually the vendor's own pricing page, help center or documentation, and sometimes a public record or an independent publication. Each source carries the date we last checked it. If we can't verify something, we mark it Unknown instead of guessing.

Who writes CRM Switchboard?

Pages are researched and written by the CRM Switchboard editorial team. The site is run by John Kanel, who works in data and process improvement. We don't sell CRM software or migration services.

Which sources count?

In order of preference: the vendor's own pages (pricing, help center, docs, official blog); public records such as board packets; then independent publications and partner blogs, labelled as such. When sources disagree, we say so on the page and explain which we use. For example, our NPSP tracker explains why we date NPSP's end of new features to March 2023, and our Bloomerang profile notes that its homepage and pricing page disagree on the Giving Platform price.

How are prices shown?

  • List prices come from the vendor's pricing page, in US dollars per month.
  • Starting prices ("from $X") are labelled: the vendor publishes a minimum only, and your quote may be higher.
  • Quote only means no public price. We don't publish third-party price guesses as list prices; a public contract figure is labelled as one data point.
  • Estimates (difficulty, cost calculator defaults you can change) are labelled as estimates.

How often are facts re-checked?

Every source has a "verified" date, and each page shows its most recent one. A script re-reads source pages and flags changes for a person to review before anything is updated; confirmed changes go to the changelog.

How are verdicts, picks and quiz results decided?

Comparison verdicts follow fixed, published rules (price at your size, free plan, users, contract, giving forms, integrations, migration offers). The quiz scoring and the small-nonprofit criteria are published too. We don't publish star ratings.

Can vendors pay for placement?

No. Vendors can't pay to be included, ranked, recommended or described differently. If sponsorship launches, sponsored slots will be labelled "Sponsored" and kept apart from facts and verdicts (rules).

How do I report a mistake?

Use the corrections form and include a link to the source that shows the current fact. We re-check it against the vendor's page.

Logos

Vendor logos come from each vendor's brand kit or website. Sources are listed on the About page.
